Code of Conduct

Code of Conduct

It is the fundamental mission of the workshop to create an inclusive and welcoming event for researchers to meet, connect, learn, share, inspire, and build knowledge collaboratively. We are dedicated to promoting diversity and equality in the field, recognizing that a diverse and inclusive environment fosters creativity, innovation, and a richer exchange of ideas. The true measure of our success lies in the meaningful engagement of individuals from varied backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences.

We want all attendees to have an enjoyable experience at the Women in Evolutionary Biology workshop. All participants—delegates, speakers, and organizers—are expected to adhere to this Code of Conduct, and organizers will take necessary actions to enforce it.

Behavioral Expectations

All attendees are expected to show respect and courtesy to others throughout the workshop and at all workshop events, including social events, whether part of the official schedule or not.

Communication

Given the diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences of attendees, please be considerate in your communication, especially when making jokes or discussing sensitive topics. Avoid assumptions about gender identity, sexual preference, survivor status, economic status, background, or health status.

Harassment

We will not tolerate harassment in any form, or language, imagery, or behavior that is:

· sexist, racist, or exclusionary

· intimidating or threatening

· insulting or unpleasant

How to report a problem

If you experience or witness harassment, please report it promptly. Contact the organization team via email at women@evolbio.mpg.de or find one of the workshop organizers. All reports will be treated confidentially.

Enforcement

Participants who are requested to cease any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately. All complaints will undergo thorough review and investigation, leading to a response deemed necessary and appropriate based on the circumstances. The organizers reserve the right to take any actions necessary to maintain a welcoming environment for all participants. These actions may include issuing warnings, expulsion from the workshop, mediation involving the complainant/victim and the person accused of engaging in harassing or discriminatory behavior.

To ensure the safety and confidentiality of the complainant/victim, no specific action will be taken without prior consultation and approval.
